Shopkeeper and car dealer Paul Steinmann and his wife Margarete Steinmann lived from 1934 to 1939 at Gutenbergstrasse 36. From 1939, they were forced to live in a “Jew house” at Westenhellweg 91/93.
Following the “Pogrom night”, Paul Steinmann was held in custody at Steinwache police station from 10 November to 12 November 1938. The couple then fled to the Netherlands, presumably in 1939.
Paul Steinmann was deported from Westerbork camp to Auschwitz in 1942 and murdered there on 24 November 1943.
Margarete Steinmann was deported to Auschwitz in 1943 and murdered there on 17 September 1943.
